St Vladimir's Orthodox Theological Seminary - About the Seminary

A Welcome to our Seminary's web site
Dean John H. Erickson

Welcome to this website!

Here we have tried to provide the information that you are seeking about St Vladimir's Seminary, its programs, its faculty, and its many resources.

You may be exploring a call to church service. Educating future priests and other leaders for service in the Orthodox Church lies at the heart of our work at the seminary. Those interested especially in ordained ministry will want to look more closely at our Master of Divinity program. Those interested in pursuing other areas of church service—in liturgical music, for example, or in Christian education—or simply in deepening their understanding of the Orthodox faith will want to explore the various options of our Master of Arts program. Those interested in other possibilities for study, whether at an advanced or at an introductory level, will want to consider the other programs presented in our on-line catalog.

Perhaps you are simply looking for a book or other materials and information about Orthodox Church life and thought. In that case, you will be especially interested in our bookstore and in the work of St Vladimir's Seminary Press. You also may be interested in the resources of our library and its collection of over 120,000 volumes.

At this site you can see who teaches at the seminary and what they teach, and you can find out if members of our faculty are visiting and speaking in your area. You can learn about events taking place here at the seminary, including many lectures, conferences and retreats that are open to the public. You can find information about services scheduled in the seminary chapel and get a glimpse of the importance of worship in molding the rhythms and spirit of campus life. You can read about the work of our Advancement Office and learn about the many ways in which you can contribute to advancing the mission of St Vladimir's Seminary.

Our website offers an introduction to the seminary—but only an introduction. It can only hint at the sense of community that binds together those of us who work and study at the seminary. Please consider visiting the seminary in person or meeting representatives of the seminary who may be visiting in your area. Meanwhile, please be sure to visit this website often in order to find out the latest news from St Vladimir's Seminary.
