Crestwood, NY—The North American branch of the Orthodox Peace Fellowship (OPF) will host its annual east coast conference at the campus of St Vladimir's Orthodox Theological Seminary on July 29-31, 2005.
The conference, themed "Salt of the Earth, Light of the World: Living the Similitudes in Our Communities," will focus on gathering and expanding a variety of Orthodox social outreach ministries to the underserved in our communities.
This conference will feature speakers who are leaders in the work of social outreach ministry. Mr Joe May of the Matthew Twenty-Five House of Hospitality in Akron, Ohio, will give a talk entitled "Downward Mobility: Voluntary Simplicity in Christian Life and Witness." Rev. Paisius Altschul of the Kansas City Reconciliation Ministries will speak on "The Icon of God: Getting Beyond 'Us' and 'Them.'"
Other Orthodox social ministries who will lead workshops at the conference include: the homeless ministry at St John the Compassionate Mission in Toronto, Ontario, Canada; the Treehouse Center for Mothers in Wichita, Kansas; Zoe for Life; and others, including those involved in the work of prison ministry.

Based in Alkmaar, Holland, OPF is an international association of Orthodox believers trying to apply the principles of the Gospel to situations of division and conflict. Its North American branch was established several years ago and holds both east and west coast conferences annually.
