Crestwood, NY—On October 28, 2004, a group of St Vladimir’s Seminary alumni and their spouses who live in the Washington D.C. area were given the opportunity to come together for a small gathering. Led by Dr Paul Meyendorff, professor of liturgical theology at SVS, they enjoyed a meal together and used the time to catch up on the seminary’s recent happenings.
At the gathering, Dr Meyendorff overviewed recent faculty activities, as well as updates in the curriculum. He also explained how the seminary’s growing student body has necessitated the construction of new on-campus housing for married students. On behalf of the seminary, he expressed appreciation for alumni who encourage and recruit prospective students. Such alumni are an invaluable resource.
Protodeacon Peter Danilchick, a member of the seminary’s Board of Trustees, and his wife Ms Tanya Danilchick, joined the alumni for lunch. Dn Danilchick discussed the recently completed self-study undertaken by the seminary as part of their accreditation review.
Both Dr Meyendorff and Dn Danilchick answered various questions about St Vladimir’s. Alumni shared their concerns and suggested ways that the seminary could better train its students to meet the needs of the Church.
Another gathering in the Washington D.C. area is tentatively planned for the spring of 2005.
Regional alumni gatherings like this have been organized as often as possible in a variety of locations over the course of the last few years. They are part of an ongoing effort by the seminary’s Board of Trustees and Alumni Board to give graduates an opportunity to reconnect with one another, and with the seminary. A representative from the seminary, usually a member of the faculty, is always present to bring those who attend the gathering up to speed on seminary news, and request their input.
