IOCC to Host Lecture by Alexis Troubetzkoy on St Vladimir's Seminary Campus
Crestwood, NY—International Orthodox Christian Charities (IOCC) will host a lecture given by their international church liaison, Alexis Troubetzkoy, in the Metropolitan Philip Auditorium on St Vladimir's Seminary campus. The lecture entitled, "Imperial Legend, Legendary Needs: Lessons from St. Petersburg," will take place on Friday, October 24, 2003, at 7:30 p.m.
Alex Troubetzkoy has both personal, professional and scholarly connections to the country of Russia. The son of Russian immigrants who grew up in Montreal, Quebec, Troubetzkoy served IOCC from 1995-1998 as country representative for Russia. He also spent time in St Petersburg researching his critically acclaimed book, Imperial Legend: The Disappearance of Czar Alexander I (Arcade Publishing, 2002), which investigates the mystery behind Czar Alexander I's disappearance in 1825. The sudden and mysterious death of this young and vigorous czar led many throughout history to believe that he did not actually die, but rather "reincarnated himself" as a staretz -- a holy man of that era who wandered throughout Russia doing good works.
The lecture is open to the public at no cost.
