Elisabeth Behr-Sigel headlines Florovsky lecture, St Nina conference at St Vladimir’s
May 29-31

St Vladimir’s Seminary in Crestwood, New York, is pleased to welcome renowned author and speaker, Elisabeth Behr-Sigel to campus for two outstanding programs, May 29-31.

In conjunction with the annual meeting of the Orthodox Theological Society of America (OTSA) being held on campus Thursday and Friday, May 29-30 (see schedule), Ms Behr-Sigel will be speaking about "Women and Authority in the Church," at the Fr Georges Florovsky Lecture on Friday, May 30, at 7:30 p.m., in the Metropolitan Philip Auditorium.

On Saturday, May 31, Ms Behr-Sigel will be guest speaker at a conference on women in the life of the Church, from 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM sponsored by the St Nina Quarterly. The theme for the conference is “Discerning the Signs of the Times.” (Click here for a pdf brochure.)

Known as the “grandmother of western Orthodoxy,” Ms Behr-Sigel is one of the foremost experts on issues concerning women in the life of the Orthodox Church. She taught for many years at St Sergius Theological Institute in Paris, and has authored countless books and publications, including Discerning the Signs of the Times published in 2001 by SVS Press.

"To be living, Tradition must, in fidelity to the original and fundamental message, attempt to find answers to the new questions asked of the Church in its new circumstances," says Ms Behr-Sigel.

The St Nina Quarterly is a publication dedicated to exploring the ministry of women in the Orthodox Church and to cultivating a deeper understanding of ministry in the lives of all Orthodox Christian women and men.
