Annual
Schmemann Memorial Lecture sees record turnout for Princeton Professor Albert
Raboteau
On January 30, 2002, St Vladimir's Orthodox Theological Seminary in Crestwood, New York, hosted its 20th annual Fr Alexander Schmemann Memorial Lecture, this year featuring Dr. Albert Raboteau, Professor of Religion at Princeton University
Dr Raboteau's lecture "Orthodox Christianity and American Culture: Conflict or Transformation?" was very well received by the more than 250 people in attendance in the Metropolitan Philip Saliba Auditorium.
Highlights from Dr Raboteau's lecture, available
on this web site, include the following passage: "Given then the pluralism
of American culture, what truths do we hold in common? Upon what basic principles
can our nation, made up of people of such diverse religious and moral values,
reach consensus? One of the principles upon which most Americans agree is freedom.
Freedom."
