MEMORY ETERNAL!Nicholas Ozerov, a former instructor at St Vladimir’s Seminary, passed away last night, April 16, 2003, after a short illness. His wife Sophie and three sons, Nicholas, and Michael, and Serge survive him, along with six grandchildren. Dr Ozerov taught Russian and Old Testament at the seminary from 1958 to 1964. In addition to his teaching responsibilities, Dr Ozerov also held the positions of Secretary and Librarian of the seminary.
Nicholas Ozerov was born on December 22, 1928 in Kiev. He left Russia in 1943 and received his secondary education from the Realgymnasium for Staatenlose in Munich, Germany in 1947. He immigrated to the United States in 1948 and began studies at St Vladimir’s in 1949, graduating in 1954. He later received the degree of M.A. in Religion from Columbia University and Union Theological Seminary. He received a PhD at Columbia where he was later a lecturer in Slavic languages.
His long and illustrious teaching career took him to Rutgers University, University of Virginia, Columbia University and Yale University.
For over twenty years, and until the time of his passing, Dr Ozerov was the choir director at Our Lady of Kazan Church, Sea Cliff, NY.
The seminary community extends its deep condolences to the family. Nicholas Ozerov’s name will be added to the monument in the central grotto of the campus where the departed faculty members are remembered.
